Llyn Melynllyn, meaning “Yellow Lake” in Welsh, is a fine-grain microcrystalline purple slate with a polishing effect while remaining soft enough to protect the cutting edge. Compared to Brazilian and Chinese (Guanxi) slates, it offers higher abrasive ability.

With water, it produces a fine purple-tinted slurry, giving a slightly coarser finish. With oil, it does not generate slurry and provides an even finer polish. Recommended as a finishing stone for razors and a pre-finishing stone for fine edges. Can be flattened if needed using silicon carbide powder on glass.
