Yellow Lake is a natural honing stone made from fine Welsh slate, perfect for precision finishing. The stone is mounted on a 3 mm aluminium blank with dovetail edges and laser engraving. Yellow Lake is quarried in North Wales near its namesake lake, together with other famous sharpening slates like Llyn Melynllyn or Llyn Idwal. This stone is known as the finest-grained among British slates and is recommended for finishing straight razors but also works beautifully for final honing of any cutting edge. It is relatively soft but delivers an approximate finish of 15,000 grit, especially when used with water, which generates a rich slurry. Can be used with water or oil — water is recommended for best results. The stone comes lapped and ready to use, flattening (if needed) is done on glass with silicon carbide powder.
