Description

Thickness Compensator (Hapstone RS / R2)

The Thickness Compensator is a practical accessory designed to maintain a consistent sharpening angle when using stones of different thicknesses on Hapstone sharpeners.

Relying only on stones of identical thickness is not a long-term solution. High-quality sharpening stones are available in various thicknesses, and limiting your selection reduces flexibility. The Thickness Compensator allows you to switch between stones freely without affecting your sharpening precision.

Why Is a Thickness Compensator Important?

When switching between stones of varying thickness, the position of the horizontal guide rod changes if not regulated. This alters the sharpening angle and may compromise consistency and edge geometry.

The Thickness Compensator acts as a mechanical anchor, ensuring that your selected sharpening angle remains unchanged when transitioning between stones.

Specifications

  • Material: Polyacetal
  • Inner Diameter: 38 mm
  • Compatibility: Precise Angle Adjuster Hapstone RS / R2

Installation

The ring is not “slid onto the shaft”. It must be inserted from the bottom of the angle adjuster housing.

  2. Insert ring from bottom
  3. Secure set screw
Thickness Compensator installation for Hapstone R2

  1. Remove set screw
  2. Insert ring from bottom
  3. Secure set screw

How to Use

  1. Install the Thickness Compensator onto the Precise Angle Adjuster (RS or R2).
  2. Insert your first sharpening stone and set your desired sharpening angle.
  3. Move the compensator into the working position (below the pivot point) and secure it using the thumb screw.
  4. The distance between the pivot and the compensator must match the thickness of the stone. Use the stone itself as a reference guide.
  5. Once fixed, the compensator should remain untouched throughout the sharpening process.
  6. When switching to a stone of different thickness, adjust only the pivot point to match the new stone thickness while keeping the compensator fixed.

This method preserves the angle of the horizontal guide rod and ensures consistent, repeatable sharpening results.
